JOSHUA FALEATUA

Joshua is a freelance dancer and filmmaker of New Zealand and Samoan descent with family ties to the village of LufiLufi on the island of Upolu in Samoa. Since graduating from the University of Auckland, Joshua has gone on to work with multiple dance companies, choreographers and directors as both a dancer and filmmaker.

DANCE

As a dancer Joshua boasts an impressive career collaborating with renowned companies including Footnote New Zealand Dance, Guangdong Modern Dance Company, Chunky Move, Stephanie Lake Company, The New Zealand Dance Company, Movement Of The Human, IDCO, Tino Sehgal, Body Island, and Ta’alili. His artistic journey has taken him across the globe, performing in live shows that have toured New Zealand, Australia, Switzerland, Germany, Kuwait, the United Kingdom and China.

Growing up in South Auckland, Joshua's early exposure to the vibrant b-boy culture ignited his lifelong commitment to the art of breaking, a foundation that continues to define his unique movement practice. Joshua also proudly represents the international Krump crew/fam '12AF' under the alias '12X,' solidifying his influence within the global dance community. It is through this understand of contemporary dance, street styles and krump that Joshua has trained and developed himself to become a truely unique dancer.

Beyond his performance career, Joshua has lent his expertise to academic institutions, serving as a dance tutor at the University of Melbourne and The University Of Auckland. His dedication to sharing his innovative movement language methodologies is further evident through his consistent teaching of open dance classes. Joshua's commitment to the art of dance is not only a personal journey but a shared passion he eagerly imparts to others.

FILM

As a filmmaker, he has directed and crafted compelling video content for a diverse range of clients, including acclaimed musicians such as Louis Baker, Tom Scott, Church, Jordyn With a Why, D4Y, The Beat Council, Sorrento, Motte, Daniel Millward, ANG135, Edie, Karnan Saba, Cut&Paste, and Gibz.

In addition, he has lent his creative vision to tattoo studios and barbar shops, capturing the essence of their artistry for studios like Cain, Taupou Tatau, MONK3YS, Tattoo Machine, Living Art Tattoos, Killer Kuts, Theez Cutter. His talent extends into the world of fashion, collaborating with clothing brands like one of n0ne, LRS, UCSO, and STEK Masks to bring their designs to life through his lens.

Furthermore, he has created video content for dance and theatre companies such as Red Leap Theatre, Massive Company, IDCO, Footnote NZ Dance, MOTH, Ta’alili, Taane Mete, Soft.co, Body Island, Momentum Productions, and Conjah. His dedication to storytelling through film is evident in his versatile portfolio, reflecting a commitment to elevating the visual narratives of his diverse clientele.

Joshua approaches film with the same exploration techniques and mindset found within the creative process of developing a live dance show. Through this dance-oriented framework, Joshua has pushed the boundaries of film creativity and developed a unique style of shooting and editing that has generated innovative films.
